ANNARCHY: MarketingProfs in Santa Barbara: Show Notes, ‘Ann-otated’

  • Dan Schawbel · 1 year ago
Every moment of your life Ann!? You must have some privacy or want to keep certain things behind curtains right?

Even Robert Scoble must keep certain things private. The only thing is that others who are close to him reveal what he's up to all the time.

If I have more close friends who blogged, then I bet more of those "private things" would be uncovered online.

When I was at UCLA, the campus was often used by Hollywood productions as a location. During shoots they posted signs in various places that announced crossing this point means you give your consent to appear on film.

This video from Santa Barbara has me concerned that similar footage from our much-less-subdued dinner on Wednesday night might exist. And I'm thinking I could have used one of those signs :)

But, seriously, I always have waaaaaay too much fun hanging out with you -- this MarketingProfs "junket" rocked.

    Ann -
Loved this! Thanks! You are the best! The Junket was alot of fun as well as helpful in many ways! I think we all came away learning something new! ; )

In addition to Caroline's other innumerable talents we can now add video director. She's so grown-up looking!! Have you considered launching a television series a la "Gene Simmons Family Jewels"? Evan is easily as hilarious as Nick Simmons. There's a gem in there, somewhere, a nugget of a good idea.

So, what did you have to eat?
  • Ann Handley · 1 year ago
Dan -- Yeah... everything, potentially, is blog fodder! Is that cool... or sad? Or both?

Christian -- LOL... I know... I cringe to think of that, too. Such are the murky waters of user-generated content!

Sharon -- I always come away feeling connected and rejuvenated.. you can't help but feel the love, I guess. And nothing replaces face-to-face.. not even Skype!

Lala -- so, "whadja eat?"... thanks for that laugh! Coffee came straight outta my nose.....

[email_continued] ... it's somehow amazing to hear the voice behind the words here. :-) Can you ask Kinsey to record some more? :-)

There I am in the background. What the heck am I doing??? Had a blast meeting the second generation.
  • Nettie Hartsock · 1 year ago
Great time was had by all. And Jim, you're in the background listening to my droning on and on and on, in a rather annoying wine-driven, over the top Texas accent. Also, I think after the 4th glass of wine every once in awhile I would tell Jim he sounded just like Neal Conan from "Talk of the Nation" and look in the mirror at Opal's and tell myself, "You're smart, and cute and gosh darn it these MarketingProfs people are fun."

ann - the long sentence was for you.

Also, I loved sitting by Christian at the other meal - he was hilarious.

i really need to update my picture. i think this one with Willie was taken at least 7 years ago and 20 lbs ago.

Taken out of context…."can you type? [Then] You can blog".... just because you have a brush, doesn’t mean you can Paint....it takes talent, and desire....As a professional (and non-blogger), I take offense when someone thinks they can do my job. But I understand these words were intended as encouragement to some younger people.

This is so cool Ann. You are indeed blessed. Thank you for sharing.

So if "“I like the weather” (paraphrased) is kid-code for “Check it! I love being out of school!!”"

....then what is "how close are you? Pretty close?" adult code for? ;)
  • Ann Handley · 1 year ago
Thanks for the comments guys... I have a love-hate relationship with video. It's cool the way it captures nuances and moments otherwise forgotten. At the same time, it's sometimes painful the way it captures nuances and moments otherwise forgotten!

In other words, I often cringe as I watch video -- esp. of myself. Which is the "code" Mack picked up on....lol...

Nettie -- It's incredible how much funnier I become after a few glasses of red. Or how much funnier I *think* I am. Whatever, right? (See paragraph above.)
  • Nicholas Tolson · 1 year ago
@Bdot - I disagree. IMO, the "Can you type? Then you can blog" line is the quote of the month! And I think it's true. Just like if you have a football, you can play football - or anything else of the sort. Does it mean everyone can do it professionally or as well as everyone else? Of course not. Plus, I think we can all easily assume that Penny wasn't putting down professional bloggers. :)
  • Karen Swim · 1 year ago
All I can say is I wish I'd been there! Penny's comment was uber funny and may have been prophetic. I would not be surprised that a 10 year old was blogging circles around me. :-)

    1. I was born in Santa Barbara. HUZZAH!

    2. The worst is when you meet somebody, and explain what you do, and they go, "Blogging? Oh, right. I've, uh, read some of those."

And you totally know that they've pigeonholed you based on their first impressions of a 15-year-old's LiveJournal.

I LOVE your video when you say "Um, how close are you?"

My friends do this to me ALL the time--they put the camera sooooo close to me that I'm cross-eyed.

    You = amazing

Ann, definitely good to get them when they are young.... Your daughter takes after you: a natural! And, yes, everything is bloggable.... I'm loving Annarchy!
